The decision to start his own insulation business was not one that Ryan Reynolds of Greenbrier, Arkansas reached lightly or overnight.
In 2003, after 8 years working for another insulation business, Ryan decided to start Mid-State Insulation Company LLC. Considering the circumstances surrounding the decision, the step to go it alone was a monumental one, since he was getting married and forming a business all at the same time. "We had one good building contractor and the possibility of others, but not so much in the bank, which represented about all our finances," says Ryan.
 To make the business succeed, like other successful small business operators, he was determined, and he devoted practically all his time and energy to the new enterprise. When the sun came up he would be getting off his job at UPS in Conway to drive to an insulation job with one assistant. The only other employee was his new wife Brittany, who sometimes helped on the jobs and answered the phones.
"I had a very nice banker that helped me become established with all the necessary equipment that first year," said Ryan. By the end of that year, we started seeing daylight in the business. The hard work was beginning to pay off.
Now into our fifth year, Mid-State Insulation employs 3 crew members and involved with other contractors from residential, commercial, to remodeling. While many in the construction industry has slowed down, Ryan says, "Mid-State has its slow periods, but overall it has managed to keep going with satisfied customers and the introduction into the commercial industry. "We anticipated over a year ago, we would need to diversify and shift some focus to the commercial side and we did."
